Getting to Know You: Nash

If you’ve spent time in our therapy room, you’ve probably met Nash! As a Physical Therapist at Christopher House, Nash enjoys working with patients and their families to help them achieve their goals—whether that’s getting up and down a couple of flights of stairs or simply getting in and out of bed without assistance. Helping people regain their independence, one milestone at a time, is what makes his job so rewarding.

Nash’s Christopher House story has two chapters. He first joined us in 2016 as a weekend per diem physical therapist, just one year out of school. In 2022, after the birth of his daughter, he made the move to full-time—and we’re certainly glad he did!

When it comes to coffee, Nash keeps it simple with black coffee. But if health were thrown out the window? A large iced Al’s Banana Foster from The Bean Counter would be his daily order without hesitation.

Ask Nash about his favorite TV show, and there’s only one answer: The Office. “One thousand percent,” he says. He’s watched the entire series hundreds of times and could probably recite every episode word for word.

One of his favorite memories isn’t a concert—it’s a Yankees game. On his wife’s first trip to Yankee Stadium, they stuck out an hour-long rain delay and were rewarded with a 4–3 walk-off win after trailing in the bottom of the ninth. Sometimes the best memories are worth waiting for.

When he’s not at work, you’ll likely find Nash at Lake George in upstate New York. Tucked between the Adirondack Mountains and the lake, it’s his favorite getaway for camping, beaches, mini golf, arcades, and quality family time. So when asked whether he prefers the beach or the mountains, his answer was simple: Why choose? Both!

Family traditions mean a lot to Nash. After his mom’s older brother passed away when Nash was just five years old, his family continued gathering at his uncle’s house every Thanksgiving. More than 32 years later, it’s still a cherished tradition that keeps his family connected and honors the memories they’ve shared together.

One of the best pieces of advice Nash ever received came from his weekend OT teammate, Doris. After years in outpatient therapy, she encouraged him to apply for the full-time opening at Christopher House, reminding him that he already knew the building, the team, and that everyone here would help him with anything he wasn’t sure about. Her confidence in him—and in the Christopher House team—helped steer him in the right direction.

Now for one of Nash’s favorite topics: hot dogs. Specifically Coney Island hot dogs…although, as he says, “really any will do.” He even jokes that if he trained hard enough, he could probably give Joey Chestnut a run for his money!

Here’s a fun fact you may not know: From the age of 14 to 26, Nash worked in just about every role at Fairway Beef Co., a local butcher shop. It’s where he discovered his love of food, customer service, and connecting with people—skills he still brings to Christopher House every day.

When asked what he loves most about Christopher House, Nash points to the people.

“We have a great team here, with tons of veteran leadership and friendly faces who are always willing to go out of their way to help. There’s a reason we have employees who have been here for 30–40+ years!”

Thank you, Nash, for your dedication, compassion, and sense of humor. Whether you’re helping a resident reach an important milestone, quoting The Office, or debating the world’s best hot dog, we’re grateful you’re part of the Christopher House family!
